Dr. Chattopadhyay – Principal Consultant (Technology and Process Improvement) at Dastur who heads Dastur Innovation Labs, will be recognized with the TMS Light Metals Award at the TMS 2018 Annual Meeting & Exhibition this coming March 11-15 in Phoenix, Arizona.
The Light Metals Award recognizes the individual excellence of a paper presented the preceding year in a Light Metals Division sponsored session, and is awarded for exemplifying the application of science in solving a practical problem.
Dr. Chattopadhyay is being recognized with the Aluminium Reduction Technology award based on his work on spent pot lining recycling in the aluminium industry: Alternative Applications of SPL Testing Ideas through Experiments and Mathematical Modelling. The treatment of SPL is a major problem in the aluminium industry, as about 1-1.5mtpa of SPL is generated every year in aluminium production, most of it making its way to landfills or storage yards, representing a significant environmental hazard.
